Churches Together in Maidenhead (CTiM) and Twyford
The Catholic churches in Maidenhead are members of Churches Together in Maidenhead, which aims to encourage local churches to work, worship and pray together.
St Thomas More works closely with other churches in Twyford and Ruscombe too.
The Core Group prays together and plans joint activities between the member Churches, including the World Day of Prayer service (on the first Friday in March); Good Friday Witness (a walk between the churches ending in the town centre); Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (services in each church open to others).
The Churches Together in Maidenhead also links the churches by newsletters and publicity of events taking place at various churches.
Examples of how we support in Maidenhead:
St. Edmund Campion and St. Joseph’s are collection points for Foodshare. Our collection area is just inside the porch doors. Foodshare are currently really in need of tinned vegetables and tinned meat, amongst all the regular donations.
We are currently helping over 120 families a week through food parcels and the Foodshare shop. We are running our “Holiday Hunger” program during the summer holidays. We provide breakfast food to schools and free lunches twice a week.
St. Joseph’s also support Street Angels, which is where Christians from local churches in the Maidenhead area working with a range of agencies including: Police, Council, Town Centre Management, Community and Voluntary groups, Pubs and Clubs to provide a safer town centre at night.
St. Joseph’s also support Action for Rough Sleepers in Maidenhead – three new initiatives under the auspices of the Brett Foundation. One is temporary hosting for refugees through a Gift-a-Room scheme. The second is a temporary Winter homeless shelter for all rough sleepers. The third is a Drop-in Centre to provide basic support for all people living on the streets, such as food and shower facilities. https://www.brettfoundation.charity/homeless-project
St. Edmund Campion also works with the local Anglican church to support the Cox Green Luncheon club once per month, providing volunteers to cook, drive and donate to a local luncheon club made up of 50 members who meet monthly at the Co Green community centre.
Examples of how we support in Twyford:
St Thomas More is a collection point for food donations for the Foodbank at Woodley which serves the people of Woodley, Twyford and the surrounding area, fighting food poverty and ensuring that no one goes hungry. They are part of the Pilot Light Trust, a registered charity set up by the churches of Woodley.
